{"id":4559,"date":"2022-11-14T12:07:38","date_gmt":"2022-11-14T11:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ancstockinvestments.com\/blog\/?p=4559"},"modified":"2022-11-14T12:07:39","modified_gmt":"2022-11-14T11:07:39","slug":"bitcoin-declared-dead-over-200-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ancstockinvestments.com\/blog\/2022\/11\/14\/bitcoin-declared-dead-over-200-times\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin Declared Dead Over 200 Times &#8211; Yet It\u2019s Alive"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new study has found that Bitcoin has been declared as being \u2018dead\u2019 more than 200 times in the past five years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To put it into perspective, the study, by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitstacker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">BitStacker<\/a>, reveals that there have been a whopping 219 reported \u2018deaths\u2019 of Bitcoin since 2018. So far, 2022 has experienced 24 Bitcoin \u2018deaths,\u2019 a fall compared to the previous year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the premature declaration of Bitcoin\u2019s death, the crypto appears to be very much alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To qualify as being a Bitcoin \u2018death,\u2019 there must have been a report stating that the crypto is or will be worthless, and this report should come from a public figure or a website with substantial traffic.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such trends are not just a recent phenomenon.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There have been 464 obituaries for Bitcoin since the original cryptocurrency was launched in 2009, including one reporting of the crypto\u2019s death in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"infogram-embed\" data-id=\"_\/UluQcEJZY6i0slLrLqwF\" data-type=\"interactive\" data-title=\"Bitcoin Dead\"><\/div><script>!function(e,i,n,s){var t=\"InfogramEmbeds\",d=e.getElementsByTagName(\"script\")[0];if(window[t]&&window[t].initialized)window[t].process&&window[t].process();else if(!e.getElementById(n)){var o=e.createElement(\"script\");o.async=1,o.id=n,o.src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed-loader-min.js\",d.parentNode.insertBefore(o,d)}}(document,0,\"infogram-async\");<\/script>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rumors of Bitcoin\u2019s Demise are Greatly Exaggerated<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bitcoin has <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ancstockinvestments.com\/blog\/2022\/10\/21\/bitcoin-price-fall-halloween-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\">experienced a turbulent year<\/a> this 2022. The findings hint at the fact that the crypto&#8217;s inherent volatility may be becoming less newsworthy. The cryptocurrency is still in the midst of a \u2018crypto winter\u2019 that has seen its value plummet from $64,000 in November 2021 to just $19,000 in June 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While these figures may be very telling of the crypto\u2019s eminent demise, such negativity has not been matched by an increase in the reports of Bitcoin\u2019s \u2018death.\u2019 In fact, there has so far been a 49% decrease in Bitcoin obituaries compared to 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bitcoin experienced the greatest number of reports of its passing in 2017. This came at a time when the cryptocurrency suffered one of its greatest crashes, losing 45% of its value overnight. As a result, there was a 343% increase in the reports of Bitcoin\u2019s death in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kris Lucas, BitStacker.com analyst said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;It is fascinating to see how resilient Bitcoin really is. Operated by no one, truly decentralised and free financial tool is being buried times and times again by influential outlets and famous people, yet &#8211; it\u2019s \u2018alive\u2019.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Language Used to Report a Bitcoin Death<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The media and prominent personalities have been very instrumental in reporting the death of Bitcoin. The language they use to describe the passing of Bitcoin provides many insights into how people perceive the cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many articles have attributed Bitcoin to a Ponzi scheme, a common type of fraud where unsuspecting individuals are lured into investing in a non-existent company, and profits are paid back from more recent investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other articles have taken more of a poetic slant, stating that Bitcoin is \u2018thin air\u2019 or \u2018traumatic memory.\u2019 Such articles use the words \u2018scam\u2019 and \u2018fraud\u2019 tend to form the main discourse of the reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most aggressive reports are those suggesting that \u2018All crypto should die in a fire,\u2019 and that \u2018Crypto is like a venereal disease.\u2019 While this ferocious language was used to report Bitcoin\u2019s demise, it was, however, not recorded in the frequency of Bitcoin-recorded deaths.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a no-brainer that the language used in reporting Bitcoin\u2019s death has become more expressive in 2022.
