The surge comes despite an unexpected jump in jobless claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dow rose 25.35 points on Thursday, closing at 34,823.35 with the S&amp;P 500 climbing 0.2% higher and reaching 4,367.48. For one thing, amid COVID-19 resurgence and falling interest rates, tech stocks now seem like the best place for investors and traders to gravitate towards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rising tech stocks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce gained 2.5% while Microsoft rose 1.6% after <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/07\/22\/microsoft-stock-msft-price-target-hike-citi.html\" target=\"_blank\">Citi raised its price target<\/a>. The tech giant\u2019s stock, according to Citi, is poised to rise more than 30% over the next year. Facebook and Amazon climbed 1.4% higher, with Apple rising just 1% after <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/07\/22\/thursdays-stock-analyst-calls-tesla-apple-boeing-mcdonalds.html\" target=\"_blank\">Canaccord Genuity announced<\/a> that the demand for Apple products was rising faster than the tides.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe width=560 height=349 src=https:\/\/player.cnbc.com\/p\/gZWlPC\/cnbc_global?playertype=synd&#038;byGuid=7000201232 frameborder=0 scrolling=no allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen oallowfullscreen msallowfullscreen ><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Some investors, according to CNBC, believe that tech shares will pull back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThis economy is still in an incredibly strong rebound, corporate revenue and profits are increasing sharply, and it\u2019s a pretty positive backdrop,\u201d<\/em> said Ron Temple, head of U.S. equities and co-head of multi-asset investing at Lazard Asset Management.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means if the yield curve steepens, it will pose a real challenge for companies that are driven by growth like tech stocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThat\u2019s a negative headwind for those companies, and it\u2019s probably a positive story for the stocks traditionally viewed as more value oriented stocks,\u201d<\/em> Ron added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jobless claims<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier in the day, stocks came under pressure after jobless claims <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/07\/22\/us-weekly-jobless-claims.html\" target=\"_blank\">suddenly rose to 419,000<\/a>, higher than the 350,000 economists had estimated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Also Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/ancstockinvestments.com\/blog\/2021\/07\/17\/us-markets-close-lows-inflation-fears-soar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"U.S. Markets Close at Lows as Inflation Fears Soar (opens in a new tab)\">U.S. Markets Close at Lows as Inflation Fears Soar<\/a><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the poor jobs data, the 10-year Treasury yield crashed to 1.265%, a rate that dropped to a 5-month low of 1.17% earlier this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bank stocks also dropped with Wells Fargo, JPMorgan, and Bank of America shedding more than 1% each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite posting a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/07\/22\/southwest-luv-and-american-airlines-aal-2q-21-earnings-.html\" target=\"_blank\">profit for the second quarter<\/a>, thanks to the recovery in travel demand and government aid, American Airlines shares crashed by 1.1% on Thursday. Southwest Airlines also reported a quarterly profit, but the carrier\u2019s stock closed 3.4% lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><em>Want to become a pro trader? Join the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.community.ancstockinvestments.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ANC Trading Community<\/a>.<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Union Pacific\u2019s shares were up more than 1% after the railroad company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.up.com\/investor\/presentations\/earnings\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">reported a Q2 net income<\/a> of $1.8 billion, up from $1.1 billion. CSX skipped almost 3.5% after its second-quarter profit more than doubled, with AT&amp;T shares climbing about 0.4%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Texas Instruments, however, slid 5.3% after the chipmaker topped analysts\u2019 expectations for Q2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market hasn\u2019t seen as much as a 5% pullback since October last year. And while the bull market might be alive now, it\u2019s too early to conclude that the market will remain smooth.
