However, after the crypto market boom in 2017, the number of cryptocurrencies started surging, reaching an all-time high of more than 6,000 in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/blockarabia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Block Arabia<\/a>, although the total number of digital coins slipped to around 5,900 since July, this still represents a massive 47% increase YTD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Almost 2,000 New Cryptos in 2021<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The large increase in investors\u2019 appetite has been one of the major drivers of the growth seen in the crypto market. In 2017, the market capitalization and the number of market participants in the crypto space saw record-breaking growth rates. At the same time, cryptos were backed by government institutions which legitimized them as investment assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total number of crypto coins and digital assets on exchanges more than doubled that year, rising from 644 to 1,335, according to data from CoinMarketCap and Investing.com.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"infogram-embed\" data-id=\"55314ec9-832a-4c52-97ae-731ec213c093\" data-type=\"interactive\" data-title=\"Total number of cryptocurrencies as of August 2021\"><\/div><script>!function(e,i,n,s){var t=\"InfogramEmbeds\",d=e.getElementsByTagName(\"script\")[0];if(window[t]&&window[t].initialized)window[t].process&&window[t].process();else if(!e.getElementById(n)){var o=e.createElement(\"script\");o.async=1,o.id=n,o.src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed-loader-min.js\",d.parentNode.insertBefore(o,d)}}(document,0,\"infogram-async\");<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of the first quarter of 2018, more than 300 new digital coins entered the market, with their total number rising to 1,658.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, that was just the start of the impressive growth. Statistics show that by the end of 2019, the number of cryptocurrencies circulating in the market jumped by 70% to 2,817 and continued rising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2020 also witnessed an impressive annual increase of new cryptos, with their total number rising to around 4,000 by the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Investing.com and CoinMarketCap data show almost 2,000 new digital coins entered the market in 2021 only, the highest annual growth to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Global Crypto Market Cap Almost Tripled in 2021<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides a huge number of new digital coins, the global crypto market also witnessed an impressive market cap increase this year. The combined value of all digital coins circulating in the crypto space has almost tripled since the beginning of 2021, jumping from $776 billion to over $2.1 trillion last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Join our&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.community.ancstockinvestments.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Trading Community<\/a>&nbsp;for more signals!<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The most expensive digital currency globally, Bitcoin, accounts for 43% of the global crypto market cap. Statistics show the combined <a href=\"https:\/\/ancstockinvestments.com\/blog\/2021\/08\/23\/bitcoin-surpasses-50k-mark-after-months-weakness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">value of all Bitcoins<\/a> stood at $912.6 billion at the end of last week, almost a 70% increase YTD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ethereum, the second-largest digital coin in the crypto space, saw almost five times bigger growth, with its market cap surging by 348% YTD to $375.5 billion. However, this was still much less compared to some other cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Dogecoin and Cardano Witnessed the Biggest Growth<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The seventh-largest crypto by market cap, Dogecoin, was the <a href=\"https:\/\/ancstockinvestments.com\/blog\/2021\/06\/10\/dogecoin-becomes-3rd-most-traded-crypto-may-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">fastest-growing digital coin<\/a> in the crypto space this year. Statistics show its market cap soared by more than 6,000% YTD to $36.8 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cardano witnessed the second-largest growth in 2021, with its market cap surging by 1,500% to $91.7 billion during this period.
