If you are an aspiring currency trader, then your success will depend largely upon how well you know when to buy, hold, or sell currencies in the financial market. Understand how fundamental trading works is, therefore, imperative.
With many determining factors of when to buy, sell, or hold currencies in the market, I will focus today on fundamentals. It will also interest you to know there are key drivers in this area which are fundamental & technical but I will focus on fundamental analysis today.
What is Fundamental Trading?
Fundamental trading is a method by which a trader focuses on specific events or news to determine which currency pair to trade as well as when to buy and when to sell.
To put this into perspective, let’s look at an example of buying in a normal market. In the market, a fundamental analyst would go to each store, study the product that is being sold, and then decide whether to buy it or not. Makes sense, right?

While trading on fundamentals can be viewed from both short term and long term perspectives, fundamental analysis is often more closely associated with the buy, sell, and hold strategy of investing than it is with short term trading. With that noted, the definition of “short term” is an important consideration here.
Some trading strategies are based on split-second decisions and others that are based on trends or factors that play out over the course of the day.

The fundamentals may not change for months or even years. At the shorter end of the spectrum, for example, the release of news every quarter or report of financial statements or other important economical events can provide insights into whether or not a trader should trade a currency pair or not. And this gives the trader or investor a position in the marketplace as to what to do at every point in time.
Changes (or lack of changes) can serve as signals to trade. Of course, a press release announcing bad news could change the fundamentals in an instant.

The Logic
Fundamental trading has a real appeal to many traders and investors because it is based on logic and facts. Of course, understanding and interpreting those facts is a time consuming, research-intensive effort.
Another challenge comes in the form of the financial markets themselves, which do not always behave in logical ways (especially in the short term) despite tons of data suggesting that they should.
Note, however, that once you understand what the fundamental analysis and technical analysis is all about and can interpret the various situations that lead to major happenings like news, events, etc, you can trade in a more easy way.
