On Wednesday, workers at the Amazon fulfillment center in Cartesset New Jersey just just crossed the strait from Staten Island revived text messages informing them of additional confirmed cases of COVID 19. Every other day is the same text message, an employee had said under anonymity due to fear of retaliation. Our building during one day shift has over 500 people at once.

There is no way to properly distance yourself when tuning at that capacity and everyday, they are hiring more and more, the employee had added.
The case has been steadily rising for the past month, according to another worker at the facility. Unfortunately, they refuse to close. “I fear infecting my children and mother who currently has cancer, I am forced to stay at home without pay”.

Earlier last week, Amazon told business insider that on April 30th, it will terminate its policy of unlimited time off which was first announced in March as part of the company’s response to the virus. The company’s 2 hr increase for hazard pay is also set to expire.
“I think they mean they want people who don’t come to work to start quitting” an employee had grumbled. In any case, the company had step up efforts to provide workers with protective gears such as gloves and mask and begun checking temperature at the start of shifts.

Amazon also recently announced efforts to develop an in house testing lab, though Ashish Sha, the director of Havard Global health Institute could result in an unwelcome increase in competition for testing resources. It brings our readers to the questions of: is Amazon a sinking ship gasping for air during this pandemic?, would workers welcome its in house testing?
